FAQs on the source, nature, and usage of chat content with SAM
Where does the information that populates SAM come from?
SAM leverages Interplay's proprietary content that has been created by seasoned experts, but because it uses GPT-4, it can also access data from other sources. Our teams will be testing the filters during the beta and making refinements as needed.
Can SAM help diagnose brand specific equipment or populate error codes for specific equipment?
SAM is not designed to diagnose brand-specific equipment, but because it uses GPT-4, it may be able to access brand-specific data online and provide responses to learners. Interplay will be reviewing the accuracy of the data during the beta testing.
Can learners ask for definitions or ask what a part of the unit is called?
Yes, SAM can respond to questions about definitions and equipment.
Does SAM answer questions about state code?
When asked about state codes, SAM will typically direct the learner to other resources -- such as online state or local codes or local building departments -- for assistance. This version of SAM is not intended to provide guidance with state codes. Interplay will monitor these types of questions and responses during the beta testing.
Will SAM ever give a direct answer if learners don't understand the content?
Although SAM is programmed to guide learners to answers by asking questions (using the Socratic method of learning), it will eventually give them a direct answer if they are struggling to understand the content. Our testing has shown that it usually takes about three rounds before providing a more direct response.
What happens if SAM provides incorrect information?
SAM may get some things wrong during the beta. Learners will have prompts (persistent rating and feedback buttons) to provide feedback on SAM's responses. Also, it's important to note that SAM is not intended to provide in-the-field advice. It should be used only to provide guidance while learners are using SkillMill's training and challenge simulations. Learners should use good judgment when considering responses from SAM.
What if I don't agree with the advice?
SAM has built-in prompts (persistent rating and feedback buttons) to let beta testers provide feedback on its responses.
How will I be able to "correct" SAM or provide feedback on a conversation?
SAM has built-in prompts (persistent rating and feedback buttons) to let beta testers to provide feedback on its responses.
What will SAM tell learners if it doesn't know the answer?
SAM's response will be highly dependent upon the type of question asked. SAM has access to a lot of information, so it's more likely that a learner might ask something too general for SAM to answer accurately or the learner may be asking a question about something in which SAM has been instructed not to give an opinion. In general, SAM will respond with either more context, a request for more information, or that it can't respond to the question.
If SAM tells learners the answer, how are they going to learn?
SAM goes beyond providing quick answers that undermine learning. Instead, it asks questions and provides additional context to help learners comprehend the content while also sharpening their critical thinking. It's like having a friendly conversation where SAM guides them towards “aha” moments and helps them develop problem-solving skills like a pro.
What protocols do you have in place to keep my employees safe? What if it tells a learner to do something unsafe and they get hurt?
SAM is not intended to provide in-the-field advice. It should be used only to provide guidance while learners are using SkillMill's training and challenge simulations.
Artificial intelligence and machine learning are rapidly evolving fields of study. We will be working to make SAM accurate, reliable, safe and beneficial. Given the probabilistic nature of machine learning, the use of SAM may in some situations result in incorrect output that does not accurately reflect information, procedures, or facts. Customers must evaluate the accuracy of any output as appropriate for their use case, including by using human review of the output.
Can learners ask inappropriate questions?
Interplay is not restricting the types of questions learners can ask. However, SAM has been instructed to respond professionally to all questions -- e.g. "I'm sorry, but I cannot help you with that kind of question."
Can this replace me as a trainer or instructor?
SAM is not intended to be a replacement for instructors or in-house trainers. Rather, SAM is a teaching assistant that provides guidance when trainers can't be there. Additionally, when learners ask SAM for help first, it can free trainers, senior techs/managers and educators from answering basic questions and give them more time to focus on high-value activities.
Will learners be able to cheat using SAM?
Learners will not be able to access SAM during assessment sims. They can only ask SAM questions when using SkillMill's training and challenge simulations.
What privacy requirements does this meet if we have learners under 18 years old?
Participants in the beta trial are required to be at least 18 years old.
Can SAM send emails to learners, push out materials via the admin dashboard or make assignments?
No, SAM does not currently include this type of functionality. SAM functions as a mentor and guide for learners to help them better comprehend the content and stay engaged in their training.
As an admin, can I use SAM to ask questions about the product?
No, SAM does not currently include this type of functionality. It functions as a mentor and guide for learners to help them better comprehend the content and stay engaged in their training.
Will admins get a report of the conversations? How is the data being used?
We are not proactively providing transcripts to admins, but if they ask, we can provide transcripts within a reasonable file size/history limit. The data will be used by Interplay to further refine SAM's responses and make continued enhancements to the product.
