What is the difference between Removing a Team Member and Deactivating a Team Member?

Groups can be used to organize your users.

What does it mean to "Remove" a team member?

Removing a team member removes that user from the current group you are viewing. The team member will not be a part of that group any more and administrators for that group will not be able to see the team member, their user information, or their progress data while viewing that group or running reports for that group.

You cannot remove a team member from a group if that is the only group they are currently a member of. If you wish to move the team member to another group, add them to the new group first, and then remove them from the old group.

What does it mean to "Deactivate" a team member?

When a team member has been deactivated in a group, they can no longer access that group or any of the sub-groups under it. Unlike when they are "removed" from the group, group administrators will still be able to view a deactivated team member's user information and historical progress data by going to the "deactivated" tab.

When you deactivate a team member, it deactivates their access to the group you are currently viewing as well as all sub-groups of that group. If this is the only group this team member has access to, deactivating them will remove their ability to view or participate in SkillMill courses.

What if I want to delete a team member because they are no longer with my organization?

If a team member is no longer with your organization, either temporarily or permanently, and you want to disable their access to your SkillMill account and free up their seat, you can deactivate that team member in your organization's parent or top-level group. This group is usually named for your organization.

When you deactivate a team member, it deactivates their access to the group you are currently viewing as well as all sub-groups of that group. If this is the only group this team member has access to, deactivating them will remove their ability to view or participate in SkillMill courses. Their user information and historical progress data is preserved though so you can continue to view it for record keeping purposes.

A deactivated team member can be reactivated at any time, pending an available seat, and all their information and progress data will be restored.
